The Madeira Firework Festival comprises four pyromusical displays taking place at 22:30 on Saturdays, as four Portuguese companies battle it out for the trophy, which is decided by public vote. Votes can be cast over the Internet or using voting urns placed in strategic locations around the city as well as in hotels.
The first display, taking place on 5 June, will be by Minhota Pirotecnia and entitled "Emotions of Colour and Light". On 12 June HC & Filhos, Lda. will be providing a display entitled "Magic in the Air". Luso Pirotecnia, who have chosen the title "Madeira, a flower's name", will be responsible for the display on 19 June. Closing the festival on 26 June will be Macedos Pirotecnia, Lda., who will be presenting the public with their display entitled "Enchantments".
Each display will last for approximately 20 minutes and the musical accompaniment will be broadcast live by a regional radio station.
