The Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Natural Resources ( SRA) through IGA - Investimentos e Gestão da Água, S.A., in a notice published on 02/06/10, advises that the levada (irrigation channel) known as ‘Levada Calheta - Ponta do Sol’, in the stretch between Cova do Arco and Carvalhal, is closed to the public for safety reasons due to restoration works to the levada.
The works are scheduled to be completed by 30 January 2011.

• PR 7 Levada do Moinho (Ribeira da Cruz - Lamaceiros)
• PR 12 Caminho Real da Encumeada (Boca da Corrida - Encumeada)
• PR 14 Levada dos Cedros (Fanal - Curral Falso)
• PR 16 Levada da Fajã do Rodrigues (Fajã da Amã - Ribeira do Inferno) - estimated reopening 15th June
• PR 17 Caminho do Pináculo and Folhadal (Lombo do Mouro - Caramujo - Folhadal - Encumeada)
• PR 18 Levada do Rei (Quebradas - Ribeiro Bonito)
The SRA states still that the following footpaths are in good conditions:
• PR 1 Vereda do Areeiro (Pico do Areeiro - Achada do Teixeira)
• PR 1.1 Vereda da Ilha (Achada do Teixeira - Ilha)
• PR 1.2 Vereda do Pico Areeiro (Achada do Teixeira - Pico Ruivo)
• PR 1.3 Vereda da Encumeada (Pico de Areeiro - Encumeada)
• PR 5 Vereda das Funduras (Portela - Maroços)
• PR 6 Levada das 25 Fontes (Rabaçal - Risco)
• PR 8 Vereda da Ponta de São Lourenço
• PR 9 Levada do Caldeirão Verde (Queimadas - Caldeirão Verde)
• PR10 Levada do Furado (Ribeiro Frio - Lamaceiros - Portela)
• PR 11 Levada dos Balcões (Ribeiro Frio - Balcões)
• PR 13 Vereda do Fanal (Assobiadores - Fanal)
• PR 15 Vereda da Ribeira da Janela (Curral Falso - Ribeira da Janela)
• PR19 Vereda do Paul do Mar
• Path between Queimadas and Pico das Pedras
In Porto Santo Island the following footpaths are also in good conditions:

• PR 2 Vereda do Pico do Castelo

IGA - Investimentos e Gestão de Água, S.A, in a notice released on 24/03/10 informs that following the recent rain storms which devastated the Autonomous Region of Madeira, landslides affected some of the hydraulics infrastrutures and Levadas. The company also informs that repair and cleaning works have started on the following levadas:
· Levada da Fajã do Rodrigues (on the island’s northern slopes)
· Levada da Calheta - Ponta do Sol
· Levada da Calheta - Ponta do Pargo
· Levada da Serra do Faial
· The northern stretch of the Tornos Canal (on the island’s northern slopes)
On 22/01/2010 -IGA - Investimentos e Gestão da Água, S.A. informs that the walking route known as “Levada da Serra do Faial” (Serra do Faial levada walk),which connects Ribeiro Frio and Casa dos Lamaceiros,in the borough of Machico will be closed to the general public as a result of maintenance work being carried out in this area. The works are scheduled to be completed by 31 March 2010.
IGA - Investimentos e Gestão da Água, S.A, in a notice released on 11/01/10, advises that the section of the 'Levada Calheta - Ponta do Pargo'walking route between the Estreito da Calheta Water Treatment Station and the business park in the Atalhinho district will be closed to the general public as a result of maintenance work being carried out in this area. This work began on 05/01/10 and will last for a period of 60 days.
IGA - Investimentos e Gestão da Água, S.A, in a notice published on 30/10/09, advises that public access to the levada (irrigation channel) known as ‘Levada Calheta - Ponta do Pargo’, in the stretch between the Prazeres sluice gate (km 13+000) and the end of the main channel at km 39+200 (Cabo irrigation reservoir) will be restricted due to restoration works to the levada. The works are scheduled to begin on 04/11/09 and are forecast to be completed in May 2011.
IGA - Investimentos e Gestão da Água, S.A., in a notice published on 02/10/09, advises that the levada (irrigation channel) known as ‘Levada dos Zimbreiros’, in the stretch between Ribeira da Ponta do Sol (km 0+000) and Caminho da Pereirinha (km 3+800), is closed to the public for safety reasons due to restoration works to the levada.
The works are scheduled to be completed by 9 February 2010.
On 27/07/09 - IGA - Investimentos e Gestão da Água, S.A, informs that the levada walk from Calheta to Ponta do Sol and the levada walk from Machico to Caniçal will be under improvement works on the 15th October 2009. Therefore these levada walks will have their access conditioned or possibly closed to the public for safety reasons. These works are scheduled to be concluded around January 2011.
On 19/06/09 - IGA - Investimentos e Gestão da Água, S.A, informs that the route known as “Levada dos Zimbreiros” (Zimbreiros Levada Walk), at the section between km 6+100 (Caminho da Candelária) and the section km 11+650, near the area of Apresentação, borough of Ponta do Sol will be entering the 2nd stage of its works of improvement. Therefore this walking route will be closed to the public due to the works in progress. These works are scheduled to start on the 22nd June and should be finished on the 15/10/09.
On 24/04/09 - IGA - Investimentos e Gestão da Água, S.A, informed the public that the route known as “Levada da Serra do Faial” (Serra do Faial Levada Walk), will have limited access in the section between Lamaceiros and Lombo da Raiz, in the parish of Santo António da Serra, Machico. For safety reasons, as a result of the maintenance work to be undertaken by IGA, this section of the footpath will have limited access and may eventually be closed. These works are scheduled to start on 15 May, and should be finished by August 2009.
